Nine Shots of Chase Pier

Chase , BC

Today I went to Chase with my Lumix GF1, a fifteen year old micro four thirds camera that I picked up in a second hand store. It came with four lenses, two dead batteries and no battery charger. I would never have bought it, but for the low price of $50. Having no idea if it would work, I bought a charger, topped up the batteries, and was pleasantly surprised when it took pictures as advertised.

I hadn’t used it for a shoot, so this trip allowed me to explore the camera as I explored a new location. The pier emerged as a good subject as the cool morning gave way to warm sunshine. In the end, it was a good morning out. This could be an interesting location on a foggy fall day. Early morning sun might be nice too.

The verdict? This little camera is a great addition to my line up. While I won’t use it as my main camera, I’ll be happy to take it on a holiday where having a pocketable, low key camera is preferred. The settings are straightforward with a convenient exposure compensation dial in aperture priority mode. I’m impressed with the image quality considering it’s an older, 12 megapixel sensor. These shots were taken with a 14-42mm zoom (28-84mm full frame). I didn’t use the 14mm or 20mm primes that came with it. At some point I’ll try those lenses to see how they perform.
